Shop Local Give Local is a campaign about making a difference in local communities. When you use your UMCU Visa® Credit and Debit Cards to shop at local businesses, a local non-profit receives a donation of matching up to 1% of total sales, and cardholders are entered for a chance to win a shopping spree.
Toys for Mott and Hurley
Our yearly campaign raises toys, games, and other supplies for the families of children spending the holidays at C.S. Mott Children's Hospital in Ann Arbor and Hurley Medical Center in Flint.
UMCU is partnered with Empowerment Plan – a Detroit-based organization that helps homeless individuals regain independence by manufacturing unique coats that double as sleeping bags. Empowerment Plan has donated over 70,000 coats to homeless individuals worldwide!
American Heart Association
We're proud to support the American Heart Association and their annual Heartwalk by raising awareness and funds to support heart health!
United Way
Every year in late summer, we host our Stuff the Bus campaign, in partnership with United Way of Washtenaw County, to collect school supplies to donate to local districts.
Huron Pathways Waterloo Initiative
Shop Local Give Local 2024 Recipient, The Huron Waterloo Pathways Initiative (HWPI). They are on a mission to connect people, nature, and the great outdoors through non-motorized recreational trails that everyone can enjoy - whether you're walking, biking, running, or just soaking in the beauty of Washtenaw County.
Play It Forward
The University of Michigan Credit Union and Ann Arbor Symphony Orchestra partner in Play It Forward, an inspiring initiative aimed at collecting gently used instruments and monetary donations to support public school music programs in Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti.
Alternatives for Girls
This was one of 10 charities who received $7,000 from UMCU in honor of our 70th anniversary in 2024. Alternatives for girls helps girls and young women experiencing homelessness and other risks by providing access to support, resources, and opportunities necessary to be safe, to grow strong, and to make positive choices for their lives.
JG16 - Give Merit FATE Program
This was one of 10 charities who received $7,000 from UMCU in honor of our 70th anniversary in 2024. Detroit Lion's Quarterback, Jared Goff, has team up with Merit to design and sell high quality products that help kids get to college. Merit's FATE Program, currently supports 200 Detroit youth and students by providing work opportunities on real-life business projects which allow them to discover that they can create their own futures.
University of Michigan Museum of Art
This was one of 10 charities who received $7,000 from UMCU in honor of our 70th anniversary in 2024. Our donation to the University of Michigan Museum of Art (UMMA) will support the Ypsilanti Community Schools Art Celebration in May 2025. This annual exhibition showcases the artwork of students from K-12.
Whaley Children's Center
This was one of 10 charities who received $7,000 from UMCU in honor of our 70th anniversary in 2024. This non-profit serves the Flint area and provides vital support, care, and love to at-risk foster children. Donations will help renovate the game room, a safe and welcoming space for mentoring, sibling visits, and downtime for the children served by Whaley.
Safehouse Center
This was one of 10 charities who received $7,000 from UMCU in honor of our 70th anniversary in 2024. Safehouse provides shelter and support for victims of domestic violence throughout Washtenaw County. Funds will sustain the 24-hour hotline, providing critical resources to survivors of domestic violence and assault.
T. Wall Foundation
This was one of 10 charities who received $7,000 from UMCU in honor of our 70th anniversary in 2024. The T. Wall Foundation works with over 2,000 special needs families per year throughout Washtenaw, Livingston and Wayne counties. Our donation provides financial support for winter and holiday needs for local families.
SOS Services
This was one of 10 charities who received $7,000 from UMCU in honor of our 70th anniversary in 2024. SOS Community Services is a community-based nonprofit dedicated to preventing and ending family homelessness in Washtenaw County. UMCU's contributions will provide families with essential supplies through the organization’s resource center.
Dearborn Goodfellow
This was one of 10 charities who received $7,000 from UMCU in honor of our 70th anniversary in 2024. UMCU's donation to the Goodfellows provided children and their families with gifts during the holiday season. The Goodfellows also provide year-round support such as school supplies, assistance during unforeseen situational emergencies, and scholarships.
The Guild of Artists & Artisans
UMCU is proud to support the Ann Arbor Art Fair! This beloved tradition brings half a million visitors to the city of the course of three days every July - and it has the distinction of being the largest juried art fair in the nation!
UMCU Youth Scholarship
UMCU's annual Youth Scholarship Program awards $1,000 to eligible high school seniors planning to attend college or trade school upon graduation.
